Origins of the Tumbuan family name

A member of the Lelengboto Soputan family, of Amurang, Sulawesi Utara in Indonesia, 'Gaspar' decided to change his name after a family dispute. He owned a coconut tree plantation and was therefore a planter by trade.

'Tumbuh' is the Indonesian verb for 'planting'. Gaspar's descendants became the 'Tumbu-ans'.
